Australian Weather Forecasts
Weatherzoneās forecasts are a collaboration of data sourced from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) and Weatherzoneās in-house modelling. Weatherzoneās industry-leading forecasting solution Opticast utilises data from our customerās weather stations, and our own Australia-wide weather station network, in addition to real-time observations provided by the BOM.
Additional forecasting is provided by international partners such as MetService NZ, CustomWeather and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO)
Long-Range Weather Forecasting ā 14 day to 12 month forecasts
These forecasts are produced by Weatherzoneās meteorologists using raw data provided by international weather agencies.
These forecasts are produced using a combination of techniques, some in the public domain and others developed by Weatherzone.
River Heights and Dam Levels
These readings are provided by the BOM, Department of Natural Resources in New South Wales, Sydney Catchment Authority, Melbourne Water and other local water agencies.
Air Quality Readings and Forecasts, and Beach Quality Reports
This information for Melbourne and Sydney is provided by the respective Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) in each state. We also use the data from IQAir to provide air quality forecasts across Australia.
Satellite Imagery
All satellite imagery originates from the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). Weatherzone receives this information via the BOM. Weatherzone produces custom weather satellite images for clients.
Weather Radar
All weather radar images provided by Weatherzone originate from the BOMās radar network. Raw radar informationāÆis delivered to Weatherzone where custom software generates images for media clients.
We also offer Oracle – a high-resolution gridded nowcast of rainfall, offering radar-like precision without the range limits of radar. It leverages the rapid-update data from Solcast, our Oracle data partner.
Sunrise and Sunset
Sunrise and sunset times are computed by Weatherzone using formulae that are in the public domain.
Tide Times
Tidal times are computed by Weatherzone using hydrographical data originally sourced from the BOM.
Surf Reports and Forecasts
Surf forecasts and reportsāÆare sourced fromāÆSwellnet.
Snow Reports
All ski and snow reports provided by Weatherzone are sourced fromāÆski.com.au.
Snow Forecasts
Forecasts of snow and alpine conditions and related commentaries are produced by Weatherzoneās team of meteorologists. These forecasts are based on informationāÆfrom various sources including the BOM.
Solar PV and Irradiance Data
Weatherzone partners with Solcast to offer a complete PV and irradiance data forecasting solution. It utilises real-time satellite imagery provided by Solcastās fleet, offering cloud nowcasting in 3D.
Weather Maps and Computer-Generated Forecast Charts
Weatherzone provides a large range of weather forecast guidance heavily based on computer models. These computer models are run by the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMRWF), US National Weather Service (GFS) and the Bureau of Meteorology (ACCESS). In addition, Weatherzone runs computer models in-house to generate additional forecast guidance for specific applications.
In most cases these computer-generated forecast charts are provided with little or no quality control and should only be used in conjunction with other meteorological intelligence.
Our computer forecast models for the Australian region are initialised with weather dataāÆsourced from the BOM and other international agencies.

Information and news relating to agricultural commodities is sourced fromāÆProFarmer.
Weather News Stories
Stories relating to breaking weather events are produced internally.
UV Readings
Daily UV information is sourced from the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) and European Space Agency (ESA).
